Well pilgrims, we arrive at the best songs of 2015. Many of these choices come from the albums I selected on my best albums/EP’s/Mixes/Reissues of 2015 post last week. The reason for this? I know it sounds snobbish, but there’s something weak about going on Soulseek and only downloading that random song you heard on the radio, or from a mix or on some internet podcast, without doing any research into where it came from and whether there’s more to explore. That gets you nowhere if you have any designs on becoming a true aficionado [rolleyesemoticon].
Then there’s my own iTunes account and how I manage it, or, in this case, don’t. I have so many playlists now that the thought of attempting to sort them, and then assign all the stuff I’ve listened to this year to some of them, is thoroughly demoralising. Listening to albums makes my future tackling of such a process (no date or deadline has been set by the way) seem somewhat less daunting. Instead of a random grouping of disparate tracks you downloaded/bought that week, or my case month, when I select an album, particularly a new album, I intend to listen to all of it. This also allows me to leave the music running without having to micro manage what’s playing every ten minutes by keying back into iTunes, and putting those new albums in a playlist, one after another, offers the familiarity of order on repeat listens, which is paramount to sorting the wheat from the chaff when formulating a list such as this.
Once again there’s no order of preference or quality, but I have put them in alphabetical order, just as they appear in the playlist I created in iTunes. I’m disorganised, but not that disorganised.
